Telegram Web lets you use Telegram in a browser without installing a desktop application. It is useful for quick access on a computer, but a browser session can remain signed in after you close a tab. Use a browser you trust, confirm the site you opened and review your active sessions when you finish.
Open Telegram Web from a source you trust
Start from Telegram’s official application directory or a browser bookmark you created after verifying the destination. Avoid links in unsolicited messages that imitate a Telegram login page. Check the full domain before entering your phone number or scanning a QR code.
This guide does not embed a login form or ask for your number. If a site claims it can speed up sign-in by collecting your code, password or QR approval, close the page and use Telegram’s own app route instead.
Sign in with the option Telegram displays
Depending on the current app flow, Telegram Web may offer a phone-number sign-in or QR login. Follow the method the page actually provides. A code may be delivered to an existing Telegram session, so check your own signed-in devices if a text message does not appear.
For QR login, use a phone where you are already signed in and scan only the code displayed by the Telegram Web sign-in page you deliberately opened. Confirm the new session only if you recognize the browser and initiated the login yourself. Telegram documents QR login as a way to authorize a new session, so an unexpected approval request should be rejected.
Use a shared or public computer carefully
On a computer used by other people, do not save passwords or leave Telegram Web open after you finish. Sign out using Telegram’s current interface, close the browser tab and consider whether the browser profile itself is shared. Closing the tab alone may not terminate the account session.
If you cannot sign out on that computer, open Telegram on a trusted device, review Settings → Devices and terminate the browser session remotely. Check the device list again if you are unsure whether the session ended.
Understand chat sync and device-specific conversations
Regular Telegram cloud chats can sync across signed-in devices. Telegram’s FAQ describes Secret Chats as device-specific and not stored in the cloud, so they will not appear on every browser or desktop session. A missing Secret Chat on Telegram Web does not necessarily indicate a login fault.
Do not use a shared browser for a conversation whose privacy needs you cannot protect on that machine. Browser history, extensions, operating-system access and other signed-in users can affect local privacy even when the Telegram service is working as intended.
Troubleshoot a sign-in problem safely
If sign-in stalls, confirm that the browser can reach the page, reload only after noting the visible message, and check your own active Telegram apps for a code. Verify the phone number and country code before another attempt. Follow the countdown and delivery options shown on screen rather than trying repeated requests.
If the code is accepted but Telegram asks for a two-step verification password, use the password and recovery options configured for the account. See the verification-code guide and missing-code checklist for those separate issues.
End or review a browser session
After using Telegram Web, use its sign-out control when available. Then review Settings → Devices in a trusted Telegram app and terminate any browser session you no longer need. If you see a session you did not create, end it and follow the account security steps.
Signing out of the browser and deleting cookies are related but not identical actions. If you share a browser profile, clear site data only when you understand what else it may remove, such as saved preferences for that browser. Prefer ending the Telegram session through Telegram’s own controls.
Telegram Web or an installed desktop app?
Use Telegram Web when browser access is convenient or temporary. Choose an installed app for regular use on a computer you control. Compare their trade-offs in Telegram Desktop vs Telegram Web and see desktop options by operating system.
