Signing in to Telegram means adding a session to an account you already use. It is different from registering a new account, and it does not require you to share a login code with another person. Choose a client you can identify, enter the number associated with your account and follow the prompts shown by Telegram. After sign-in, review the devices connected to the account.
Confirm the client before entering your number
Telegram offers mobile, desktop and web clients. Start from its applications directory or another publisher source you can independently verify. For a browser, check the entire address; for an installed app, check the publisher and platform. Avoid login links from unexpected messages, advertisements or bot conversations.
Choose the client for your device and check the actual download destination and publisher before installing. A button label alone cannot verify a file. Never enter your phone number or code on an unrelated page solely because it uses Telegram branding.
Use the account’s current phone number
Select the correct country calling code and enter the number associated with the Telegram account. If you have more than one SIM, verify that you are using the right line. If you have changed numbers, check a trusted signed-in Telegram app before starting a new registration. Avoid a public or borrowed number for an account you want to keep.
Telegram determines which code-delivery step is available. Check a trusted device that is already signed in and follow the instructions shown in the current app. The flow can vary, so do not assume that every attempt uses SMS or a phone call.
Protect the login code
Enter a code only in the active Telegram sign-in that you initiated. Telegram’s FAQ warns users not to share login codes. A group admin, bot, website, friend or person claiming to work for support does not need you to forward the code in chat.
If someone asks you to scan a QR code, confirm that you started the login and recognize the device that will be added. QR approval can authorize a new session. Do not approve one sent by a stranger or displayed by an unfamiliar website.
Complete the additional password step if enabled
Some accounts have two-step verification enabled. In that case, Telegram may ask for the account’s separate password after the code. A login code and a two-step verification password are different credentials. If you do not know the password, use the recovery method Telegram presents; do not keep requesting codes or pay an outside service to bypass it.
Review the new session
After signing in, open Telegram’s Devices or Active Sessions control and confirm the new entry is expected. End sessions on computers or phones you no longer control. A network location label may not identify a person precisely, so consider the device and time information together.
If the new session is on a shared computer, sign out when finished and verify that it no longer appears as an active session. Closing a browser tab is not always the same as ending access. For recurring desktop use, compare Telegram Desktop and Web.
Troubleshoot without creating overlapping attempts
If no code arrives, confirm the phone number, active SIM, message filters and connection, then check any trusted signed-in device. Respect the on-screen timer and use only the next option it offers. Opening several clients and repeatedly requesting codes can make it difficult to tell which attempt is current.
If Telegram shows an error, record the non-sensitive wording and the client version. Do not include the code in a screenshot or support request. Use the app’s help route or official documentation. See the login code checklist for an ordered diagnostic process.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sign in to several devices?
Telegram supports multiple sessions. Use clients you can verify and review the active-session list after adding a device.
Is the login code the same as my account password?
No. A code is tied to a sign-in attempt. Two-step verification is a separate password that may be requested afterward.
Can Telegram support ask me to send the code in a chat?
Keep the code private and enter it only in the Telegram flow you initiated.
What if I no longer control my phone number?
Use a trusted active session to review the account’s current number and recovery options. Follow Telegram’s official instructions; do not use a rented number or recovery seller.
