Telegram language settings control the app interface: menus, buttons and prompts. They do not automatically change the language of messages, install a keyboard or translate incoming text. Choose the right setting for the task you are trying to complete, and use a language you can understand when changing account security or privacy.
Change the interface language
Open Telegram’s Settings and find the Language control in the client you use. Available options and menu labels can vary across Android, iOS, Desktop, macOS and Web. Read the language name and confirmation before applying it. If the app’s current wording is unclear, switch to a built-in language you understand.
For Chinese interface steps, see set Telegram to Chinese. Telegram’s translation platform shows language projects and client-specific translations.
Interface, messages and keyboards are separate
The app language changes menus, not chat messages. Message translation, where available, is a separate feature. Your keyboard or input method is generally controlled by your device’s operating system. See Telegram language settings explained for the differences.
Review custom language packs
Some language links can apply a custom or community pack. Read the pack name and completion note in Telegram. Verify who shared the link and do not provide account credentials or install unrelated software. See third-party language pack safety.
Change language across devices
Check each Telegram client you use; language preferences may not sync in the same way as chat history. A phone can display Chinese while a desktop app remains in English. Changing the interface does not end account sessions or alter account security.
