Telegram for iPhone and iPad: App and Setup Guide

Start with the iPhone and iPad app route

Telegram lists a dedicated iOS app for iPhone and iPad. Choose the iOS guide rather than an Android APK or desktop installer. Availability and listing details can vary by region and change over time, so check the current publisher and app information presented at the destination you choose.

If a download button appears on this page, confirm that it leads to the destination you intended and review the app name, publisher and version information shown there before installing. If no button appears, a destination has not been configured.

Before first launch

Check that your device meets the current iOS requirements displayed by the app listing. If an installation is unavailable, do not install an unrelated profile, certificate or configuration file offered by an unknown website as a workaround. Confirm your region, device compatibility and the publisher’s currently available options instead.

After installation, open Telegram and follow its own account setup prompts. A Telegram account login code is sensitive: do not share it with a person, site, bot or support agent. If you recently used Telegram on another device, a sign-in code may be delivered in Telegram on an already connected device rather than as an SMS. Check your existing sessions and the verified Telegram service chat before requesting another code.

Notifications and privacy on iOS

If notifications are missing, check both Telegram’s notification settings and the iPhone or iPad system notification settings. Confirm that the relevant chat is not muted and that a Focus mode is not suppressing alerts. Menu labels can change between iOS releases, so use the current Settings search if the labels differ from this guide.

Review who can see your phone number, who can find you by number, and which devices are signed in. A username can be shared instead of giving someone your phone number, but review your privacy settings before making contact details discoverable. Remove sessions you do not recognize.

Moving between devices

Telegram says cloud chats can sync across the devices where you sign in. Secret Chats are different: they are device-specific and are not part of Telegram Cloud. Before signing out, reinstalling the app or changing devices, consider whether you need access to a Secret Chat on the current device. Do not assume that a backup or another Telegram client will restore it.

Troubleshooting

The app does not appear after I install it

Check the device’s app library and installation status. If the download is still pending or an error appears, confirm available storage, network access and the current system requirements before trying again.

I cannot receive a login code

Read the exact instruction on Telegram’s sign-in screen. Check any other active Telegram device for a code sent in the verified Telegram service chat, confirm the phone number format, and use only the recovery options Telegram presents. Never forward a code to another person or bot.

I signed in on a shared iPad

Review active sessions and end the session when you no longer need it. Avoid saving sign-in information on a device used by other people, and use the device passcode and account protections available to you.
